BMX components affect speed, control and the overall feel of the bike on the track or in the park. Choose the right BMX parts for race and freestyle based on riding style, compatibility and setup level.
Choose a component category:
For wheels and tyres the wheel size in inches (20", 26", 29"). For seatposts, handlebars and stems the diameter in mm – a seatpost must match the seat tube of the frame.
Crank arm length (e.g. 170 mm) or stem length (e.g. 50 mm).
Number of spoke holes in the rim or hub. Rim and hub must match (usually 32 or 36).
Number of teeth on the chainring or sprocket. More teeth at the front = harder gear, more at the rear = easier.
Whether the part is for the front or the rear wheel (hub, wheel, brake).

BMX components determine how the bike performs in real riding conditions – how quickly it reacts under power, how well it holds its line, how it behaves on impact and how confident it feels in the rider’s hands. This category includes parts for BMX race and freestyle, from essential replacement parts to components for performance-focused and race-ready builds.
This is often where the real difference is made. In BMX, it is not enough to look only at the brand or appearance – what matters is how cranks, brakes, handlebars, wheels and other related parts work together as one setup.
How to choose BMX components:
What makes the biggest difference first:
If your priority is speed and performance on the track, it makes the most sense to start with the parts that directly affect power transfer and rolling efficiency – especially BMX tires, cranks, hubs, rims or complete built wheels. This is where the difference between a basic and a performance-focused setup becomes most noticeable.
If your main focus is bike control and feel, it often makes more sense to look at handlebars, stems and the braking setup. In race BMX this affects sprint confidence and line control, while in freestyle it influences technical handling and trick execution.
Race vs freestyle components:
BMX race components are usually lighter, stiffer and designed for the most efficient power transfer possible. This becomes obvious during gate starts, speed retention and overall responsiveness. You can typically notice it with cranks, brakes, hubs and wheels.
Freestyle-oriented components tend to put more emphasis on durability, strength and confidence under harder use. If you are building a bike mainly for street, park or dirt, chasing the lightest option is not always the right decision.
If you are building a performance BMX race bike → it usually makes most sense to start with the drivetrain, wheels and cockpit. If you are doing a full bike refresh or simply want better control → it is often smarter to upgrade step by step and begin with the parts the rider will actually feel on every ride.
In the BMX components category, you therefore have room both for replacing worn-out parts and for fine-tuning the bike according to riding style. This is often where the real difference is made – the right parts decide whether the bike is merely assembled, or whether it actually works properly as a complete setup.
