Dartmoor Player – aluminum seatpost for dirt and freeride

The Dartmoor Player aluminum seatpost keeps a low profile and focuses on one job – sitting in the frame and holding the saddle, without adding weight it doesn't need. The 6061 aluminum body weighs 220 g, and at 300 mm it leaves enough room to set saddle height even on taller frames. The head sits with a straight 0 mm offset, keeping the saddle right over the seat tube centerline, and 2 micro-adjustment bolts fine-tune the angle without touching the main clamp. It ships in three diameters – 27.2, 30.9 and 31.6 mm – covering seat tubes on most frames built for dirt, freeride and other gravity disciplines.

Key features: Dartmoor Player

  • Material (AL 6061, black anodized): aluminum body takes repeated impact from jumps and drops, the anodized finish also resists scratches and UV fading better than paint.
  • Weight (220 g): among the lighter classic seatposts in its class, barely noticeable in total bike weight.
  • Length (300 mm): enough insertion range for saddle height even on frames with a longer seat tube.
  • Three diameters (27.2 / 30.9 / 31.6 mm): covers seat tubes across most dirt and freeride frames.
  • Straight offset (0 mm): saddle sits directly above the seat tube centerline, no rearward shift.
  • Micro angle adjustment (2 bolts): fine-tune saddle tilt without loosening the whole clamp.
  • Standard clamp (2-bolt): fits regular saddles with round 7 mm rails, no extra adapter needed.
  • Minimum insertion mark: stamped right on the post, marks the safe minimum depth inside the frame.

Aluminum body built for repeated hard landings

6061 is a wrought aluminum alloy used exactly where a part takes shock loading, not just steady tension like a frame tube. On a classic seatpost with no dropper mechanism, that means a simple build with few points that could bend or crack on landing. The result holds up to years of bike park and dirt track riding with no service needed.

Black anodized finish

Anodizing builds up a harder oxide layer on the aluminum surface, which resists rubbing from the frame's seat clamp and UV exposure better than a plain painted finish. Before first install it still pays to coat the contact area with a thin layer of assembly paste or grease. That keeps the aluminum from seizing inside the frame, which can happen within a few months on bikes ridden in rain and mud without any maintenance.

Three diameters, one model

Check the exact seat tube diameter in the frame manual, or measure it directly at the top edge of the tube with calipers. The Player ships in three sizes – 27.2, 30.9 and 31.6 mm – with no shims or reducers involved, so there's no extra joint added to the setup from a mismatched diameter.

What if my frame doesn't match any of the three sizes?

For a small gap (usually under 0.4 mm) thin metal shims can bring the seatpost diameter in line with the tube. That adds one more contact surface, though, which can start creaking without regular grease. Where the frame matches 27.2, 30.9 or 31.6 mm exactly, just pick the matching Player size and skip the shim.

Micro-adjustment for saddle angle

The clamp head has two bolts that shift saddle tilt in small steps without loosening the whole tube clamp. In gravity riding, where the saddle spends most of the run out of the way rather than under weight, the exact angle decides whether it gets in the rider's way through pumps and berms or stays out of it. Dialing it in takes a few minutes with a standard hex key.

Safe insertion depth into the frame

A minimum insertion mark is stamped on the post – the seatpost must never be extended above this line, or the seat tube and the post itself risk overload and cracking. At 300 mm there's enough spare length even for taller riders who need the saddle set high. Still, check the mark again after every frame or seatpost swap, not only at the first setup.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Which diameter of the Player do I need?

The diameter has to match the frame's seat tube exactly – there's no travel here to make up the difference. Check the frame manual or measure it with calipers. The Player is sold in 27.2, 30.9 and 31.6 mm.

Does it work with saddles on oval rails?

The Standard clamp is built for round 7 mm rails, which covers most classic saddles on the market. Saddles with a special rail type (Pivotal, I-beam) need a matching seatpost or clamp, not this Standard version.

Can I run the Player on a trail or XC bike?

Technically yes, if the diameter matches. The Player is built for impact resistance rather than the lowest weight, so a lightweight carbon XC post will still shave off grams it can't. For dirt, park and freeride, where landing reliability matters more, it's the right tool for the job.

Can I adjust saddle height on the fly?

No, the Player is a fixed seatpost – you set the height by loosening the frame's seat clamp before a ride, not during one. For adjusting height on the go, look for a dropper post instead.

Reliable. I bought a new chain, it turned out to be unsuitable, but exchanging it for another one was no problem.

Who it is forThe Player seatpost is built for dirt jumping, freeride park riding and other gravity disciplines, where the post takes repeated hard hits on every run. A simple design with no dropper mechanism or electronics means nothing extra to break – it suits frames like the Dartmoor Two6Player and similar dirt/street builds. Riders who need to change saddle height on the fly between climbing and descending should look at a dropper post instead of this classic seatpost.
