The Diamond WB frame is a lighter version of the previous design, with a reworked tube profile and new rear dropouts that let you fine-tune chain tension without extra spacers. Hi-tensile steel is standard on entry-level freestyle bikes – heavier than aluminium, but better at absorbing repeated impact from ledges and stair sets, which matters more on a kids' bike still learning tricks than a few extra grams. Hi-ten vs. Cr-Mo – why entry-level bikes use hi-ten

Hi-tensile steel is cheaper and somewhat heavier than the chromoly (Cr-Mo) alloy used on Haro's higher-tier bikes – on the Downtown 18 frame and fork that means a few hundred extra grams versus a Cr-Mo version, in exchange for a lower price at the same resistance to cracking. The cranks are Cr-Mo instead, because there bending strength under pedalling load matters more than overall frame weight.

Cassette rear hub instead of a freewheel

A classic freewheel has its ratchet mechanism built into the hub shell itself, so the whole unit – bearings included – has to come off to service it. A cassette hub separates the 9-tooth driver from the hub shell, so servicing and swapping the gear ratio is quicker, and bearing play tends to be tighter, which a rider notices on a hard pedal stroke into a turn or a manual. The 25/9T gearing (Haro ST 25 Lite chainring) is a common ratio for junior freestyle riding, on flat ground and gentle rollouts alike.
